About us

Shalford, Peasmarsh and Chilworth Climate Action Group (SCAG) is a dedicated climate action group committed to raising awareness of environmental issues and actively reducing pollution and carbon footprint in our local community. Through our website, we aim to promote sustainable events and grow our membership to create a more eco-friendly future. SCAG was set up by the local Community Council (previously known as the Parish Council) following their declaration of a climate emergency in 2021.

Energy Saving and Renewables

Working with trusted suppliers to provide a 'whole house' solution covering energy survey, insulation and solar and heat pump recommendations as a one-stop shop.

We are also supporting a project to install solar PV on the village hall.

Transport

Working to improve the village for all by addressing the issues of speeding and pollution on our busy through roads.

Identifying the key cycle routes that link our villages to Guildford and each other and campaigning for adequate maintenance.

Advocating for 20mph limits where pedestrians and cyclists are currently at risk from high speed traffic.

Working with Guildford and Surrey County Councils to improve air quality in the AQMA (Air Quality Management Area) on the A281 in Shalford.

Providing a considered response to local consultations on road layout changes.

Water Testing

Working with the Water Rangers based in ZERO Guildford to regularly test and report the Tillingbourne and Wey river water quality.  This supports river users and allows us to engage meaningfully with Thames Water and local landowners.

Hedges

Working with the Surrey Wildlife Trust team who are helping us to  develop our knowledge and practical skills in designing, planting and managing hedges for improved biodiversity, and linking between existing woodlands.
