Hedges

Hedges are an important part of our eco-system, not only providing food and shelter for wildlife, but also helping to combat soil erosion and flooding.  We are working to improve hedging in the area and have already created a bridge between Chinthurst hill and the A248

The hedges linking the habitat areas on the King’s Road with those around Chinthurst Hill are coming along well.

We planted the first part of the hedge around November 2023.

This photo from April 2026 show how well the hedge developed in its first 30 months.

And a second phase of planting shows impressive 17 months of growth!

The failure rate has been low (<3%) which is a tribute to all our volunteers.  As you can see, the hedge structure is on its way to becoming a (small) wildlife corridor.  Hedges are incredibly important for our ecosystems.

If you know of a potential hedging project, please contact us and let us see if, together, we can create more hedge habitat.
